BT Apex for A5
Torrid Staff,
I am writing this email at the request of one of your employees.
I purchased a BT APEX barrel for at A-5 from your store last weekend. The Staff
member I purchased the barrel from requested my feed back as he was interested
in barrel's performance.
I am a "weekend" player who does not play tournaments and prefers woodsball over
speedball. I usually employ a Spyder, but I have recently acquired an A5. I used
the A5 equipped with the APEX barrel in the Big Game at Hogback Mountain,
located Leesburg VA. The Big Game was entirely woodsball and the APEX performed
quite well in most situations. The following is my opinion on the performance of
this barrel based upon usage during the Big Game.
Arcing Upwards: This extends the range and creates a flatter trajectory. I kept
the barrel in this mode most of the time with a setting of 50%. I engaged
targets at a slightly greater distance than I normally did with my Spyder and
achieved similar accuracy. The flatter trajectory also made it easier to shoot
through holes in the foliage. I found that setting of 75% or greater caused the
ball to arc upwards. I would loose sight of the ball at the apex of its flight
making it impossible to judge impact in the foliage and adjust fire.
Arcing Downward: I found this mode useful to engage targets located behind
obstacles such as logs, brush, or on the downward slope of the small hill or
rise. Each setting worked well, but it takes time using trial and error to find
the right setting/range. Once I obtained the correct setting it was easy to
suppress the area to good effect. I had a low kill ratio in this mode, but it
was effective area effect weapon that forced opponents to abandon their
position, often exposing themselves to direct fire from team mates.
Arcing Left and Right: I found this mode of little use in woodsball, where
simultaneously engaging multiple targets at radically different ranges and cover
types is common. This may prove useful in speedball, but it fell short in
woodsball.
Other: The APEX muzzle is large, making it difficult to get a cover on. I did
not experience problems with broken balls.
Conclusion: The design is too simple for the price tag, but it performs as
advertised and simple means less maintenance and failures. I do not regret
purchasing the barrel and I believe it is a valuable addition to my collection.
